Bait the Poach, Then Go Behind the Mover
The Situation
An aggressive net player keeps poaching your cross-court balls by jumping across the middle.
What To Do
Set up as if going cross-court to invite the poach, then redirect behind the poacher down the line into the space they are vacating, timed to their movement, not before.
Why It Works
A habitual poacher commits across the court early to intercept, and the moment they jump the line behind them is wide open and they cannot reverse in time. Baiting the poach turns their aggression into your free point: you are no longer guessing where the gap is, you are creating it. Keep the cross-court disguise honest so the poacher keeps biting, and don't overuse it or they will stop committing.
Court Positioning
Poacher jumping across the middle to intercept the expected cross-court ball. Hitter redirects behind them down the line into the vacated space, leaving the poacher stranded and unable to reverse.
