Chiquita to the Backhand Volley, Then Sprint In
The Situation
Opponents own the net and you can't get a lob past them, so you need another way to break their position.
What To Do
Play a chiquita, a slow, low ball that dies at the net player's feet, aimed at their backhand volley side, and the instant you hit it, sprint forward behind it to take the net.
Why It Works
The chiquita is the primary weapon against a dominant net pair: a soft ball at the feet forces them to volley up from below the tape, turning their attack into a defensive lift. Targeting the backhand volley, usually weaker and lower, makes a clean reply even harder. But it only works if you follow it in, the low reply you have forced is your invitation to steal the net. Hit and move; a chiquita admired from the baseline is wasted.
Court Positioning
Slow low chiquita dipping to the net player's backhand-side feet. The net player is forced to lift the volley while the hitter sprints forward behind the ball to claim the net.
