Keep Your Body Facing Diagonally: Not Sideways

positioningnetbody position

The Situation

You are at the net and trying to watch both the ball and your opponents simultaneously.

What To Do

Stand with your body at a 45-degree diagonal angle, not square to the net, not fully sideways. This allows you to see the ball, your partner, and both opponents at once.

Why It Works

A square stance limits peripheral vision. A diagonal stance opens your visual field so you can read the whole court simultaneously. Professional coaches identify this as the default net stance, it improves both reaction time and decision-making quality.

Court Positioning

Player at net shown at 45-degree angle. Visual field covers opponents at back, partner beside, and incoming ball trajectory.
